The Research Compliance Office and Office of Sponsored Programs

Current and upcoming professional researchers at Howard University will find the assistance they need in the two key divisions of the Office of the Vice President for Research and Compliance:

The Research Compliance Office, which deals with the use of human subjects, animals, and bio-hazardous material in research.

Howard University Institutional Review Board (HU-IRB)
The Howard University Institutional Review Board provides regulatory and administrative guidance, approval and oversight. It is our mission to facilitate research while uncompromisingly protecting the rights of human participants.


Howard University Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (HU-IACUC)
The Howard University Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee provides regulatory and administrative oversight and approval to the Howard University research community by overseeing the responsible use of animals in University research and instructional activities.


Howard University Institutional BioSafety Committee (HU-IBC)
Howard University is concerned about the environment and research efforts must adhere to strict compliance guidelines with regards to the use and disposal of biohazardous, radioactive, and recombinant DNA material. Research Administration (OSP-RA)
The Office of Sponsored Programs-Research Administration is dedicated to serve the Howard University and global research communities by providing timely and effective service in a professional manner. Our purpose is to enhance and facilitate the quality of research at our institution while maintaining the highest standards of excellence.


Post Award Services Unit (OSP-PASU)
The Office of Sponsored Programs-Post Awards Service Unit is a service organization whose mission is to provide support to the Howard University community in the administration of essential activities that are required to conduct externally funded projects. OSP-PASU helps to ensure compliance with internal and external requirements within an atmosphere of professionalism and collaboration. While ensuring compliance with University, federal, state and private sponsor requirements, OSP-PASU strives to provide outstanding customer service in grant/contract administration. This is done to help support the University's mission.
